Health Insurance

Playlab gives you the opportunity to work in Thailand long-term without the strain of paying for private insurance each month. As an Employer of Record (EOR), we provide you with a Business Visa and Work Permit to live and work in Thailand legally. Along with this, you will receive a Thailand Social Security card which gives you coverage for illnesses, regular doctor visits, and preventative treatments through government hospitals

What is Healthcare Like Under Thai Social Security?

Many ex-pats living and working in Thailand find that their personal health insurance coverage is more than sufficient for the needs they have, especially in cases of emergencies. You will choose a “local” hospital during the application process. At this hospital, all you need to do is provide your Thai Social Security Number and passport and you will be treated free of charge for anything that is seen as “medically necessary” by doctors, including any pre-existing conditions.

If you are at another government hospital, you will be required to pay cash upfront and will be reimbursed later. Our HR department will help facilitate this on your behalf.

Hospitals that serve social security patients, unfortunately, do have waiting periods than can be long and the doctors you get you do not get to choose. You’ll need to visit a general practitioner first, who will then refer you for treatment by a specialist if required. In most cases, however, you are in and out within a few hours without needing to pay for anything.
